As a film actor Paul is best known for his co-starring role
with Diana Ross is the Billie Holiday biography LADY SINGS THE
BLUES for Paramount, for which he was listed on many critics'
best supporting actor nominations. In addition, Paul co-stars
in two feature films: LETHAL EXPOSURE, with Robby Benson and
THE THING CALLED LOVE with River Phoenix, directed by Peter
Bogdonavich for Paramount. His most resent starring role with
Leonard Nimoy, Blythe Damer and Dabney Coleman in T-N-T's NEVER
FORGET (nominated far an ACE Award for Best Picture) aimed him
glowing notices including one from the New York Times. The movie
was directed by Emmy Award winner Joseph Sargent, for whom Paul
is currently completing a full-length movie musical love story,
in which he will do the music and lyrics as well as "star".
Paul also has a recurring role in the new Warner Bros., series
BABYLON FIVE.
As an ASCAP award-winning singer-songwriter, he has performed
on THE TONIGHT SHOW, MERV GRIFFIN, AMERICAN BANDSTAND, SMOTHERS
BROTHERS, and as a teen on ED SULLIVAN. He is listed on the
British Rock Journal, Footsoldiers and Kings, as one of the
100 architects of American Rock-n-Roll. One of his several "million
seller" songs, SEA OF HEARTBREAK, was recorded by Leo Sayer
and was a top five record in England as well as the title song
of Clint Eastwood's film, HEARTBREAK RIDGE for Warner Brothers.
(The song was used again in the Eastwood film PERFECT WORLD
with Kevin Costner). Other hits of Paul's include YOU DON’T
KNOW WHAT YOU’VE GOT (UNTIL YOU LOSE IT) and the theme
song for one of televisions biggest turkeys MY MOTHER THE CAR
(Ironically, the song has become one of the all-time favorite
T.V. themes and been re-recorded with sales in the millions.)
Other artists who have performed and recorded Paul's songs
include: Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Bette Miller,
Merle Haggard, Ronnie McDowell, Rick Nelson, POCO, Lynn Anderson,
Clyde McPhatter, O.C. Smith, Eddy Arnold, Amanda McBrocat, Don
Gibson, Johnny Tillotson, Gene Vincent, and Sammy Davis. Paul
has written a musical A LITTLE SHOW OF AFFECTION from which
much of his current material is drawn, developed at the Mark
Taper Forum.
